The Strongcliff Thieves' Guild

The Strongcliff Thieves’ Guild was originally nothing more than a small group of pickpockets, who were a mild nuisance to the villagers of Strongcliff but posed no serious threat. However, around six months ago, an ambitious newcomer to the Guild by the name of Verris rose up through its ranks and transformed it into a truly disciplined organisation.
The Guild began to attract more members under Verris’ leadership, and after making alliances with the kobolds of Strongcliff Volcano and a local band of goblin pirates, the Strongcliff thieves became a force to be reckoned with. They began to cultivate a climate of fear in the village by not only stealing whatever they could, but also by threatening and torturing the local people in order to extort money from them. Most notably, Verris himself threatened to harm Mayor Dosaar’s family if he refused to pay extortionate tithes to the Guild. When Dosaar’s butler attempted to stand up to this intimidation, Verris and his lackeys hacked off his leg simply to teach him to obey.
Strongcliff was soon under the Guild’s control, and for the first time the Strongcliff thieves were serious contenders in the Thieves’ Game. The goblin pirates in Verris’ employ soon managed to retrieve the Thieves’ Sword – then in Carla Scargill’s possession – and give it to their master, further increasing his power. Rumours that the sword was guarded by a pet dragon deep inside their headquarters made other thieves’ guilds reluctant to attempt to take the sword for their own, but fortunately Verris only held onto the sword for a few days before Sariel and Rolenn discovered the Guild’s headquarters within Strongcliff Volcano and slew Verris. Without their leader’s intelligence and uncanny ability to coerce others, the Guild soon dispersed and was reduced once more to a ragtag group of thieves with no grand plans beyond swiping the occasional purse of gold from the marketplace.
