Carla Scargill

Carla is a twenty-year-old human rogue with cropped red hair and a face covered in white scars. She wears a gold earring in one ear, and her left hand is marked by the rune of the Thieves’ Game. Unlike most citizens of Skylar, she has no religion, as she believes that any god that would allow a child to be born cursed is not worth putting her faith in.

Carla’s father and uncle were once thieves, but left their Thieves’ Guild in an attempt to escape the Thieves’ Game. They settled down in an isolated village where they thought they would be safe, but they could not escape the game entirely, and when Carla was born, she inherited the mark of the game from her father. Her mother died in childbirth, and her father went mad with grief and killed himself. Eric was left to look after her, and after the superstitious villagers drove them out they spent her entire childhood on the run.

When she turned eighteen two years ago, Carla devoted all her time to searching for a way to leave the game. However, she had little success – none of her schemes worked, and although she managed to take the Thieves’ Sword once, it was soon lost to pirates in the employ of the Strongcliff Thieves’ Guild. In desperation, Carla attempted to pass on the responsibility for finding the sword to Rolenn and Sariel, but although this trapped the adventurers in the game along with her it could not help her escape. Realising it was only a matter of time before the adventurers discovered her deception, she fled the city of Jagden in the direction of Strongcliff. However, Sariel and Rollen caught up with them in the Arathon Woods, and after interrogating Carla they press-ganged the Scargills into their service. Since then, Carla has been helping the adventurers to find the Thieves’ Sword and put an end to the Thieves’ Game.
